MECE Teachers

Miss Cathy, Director
Director: Cathy Herschelman
has been working as a MECE Administrator since 2006 and took over as Director in 2012. Prior to that, she was an Administrator at the Methodist Preschool in Lawrenceville, GA, bringing ten years of experience as a twos and threes teacher to the position and also served as a mentor and trainer for new teachers. She is a UCF graduate where she majored in Marketing and Psychology, and then received her preschool teacher certification in 1992. She continues to take college level courses in the field of Early Childhood Education. Cathy is also active at the state level, serving as a Certified Validator since 2010 on the accreditation committee of the United Methodist Association of Preschools (UMAP) to certify preschools with National and Florida Gold Seal Accreditations, and since 2017 as an Executive Director of the Board. She enjoys spending time with her family, including children Rick and Karley and grandbaby, Ani. Cathy is a member and frequent volunteer at the First United Methodist Church in Boca Raton. In her spare time she enjoys Zumba, cooking and helping her husband, Quent, maintain the Preschool’s web site.

Assistant Director: Lisa Bariso has been working in early education for over  20 years. After getting her business degree from St. Leo University, Lisa went on to get her Preschool Certification and eventually began working with another preschool in the Boca Raton area. It was there that she heard about the premier experience offered by MECE Preschool where developmentally appropriate experiences are the priority. She joined the MECE family in 1997 as a Senior Twos teacher. Serving as Assistant Director since 2012, Lisa’s strong background in both early childhood education and business management strengthens MECE’s commitment to quality and excellence. She and her husband of 25 years, George, have two sons, John and Zachary, both of whom she entrusted to MECE for their early education. Lisa is very active in the community: serving as a member and past President of Junior League, volunteers at local non-profit organizations, and in her spare time enjoys travelling, and going to musicals and sporting events of all levels!

Twos

MECE Twos TeacherAbby Miller's  background in early childhood psychology allows her to meet each child at their own developmental stage. Abby brings a loving, supportive approach to helping children learn social and emotional skills and has been a MECE staff member since 2011. She has degrees in Psychology and Law from Washington University in St. Louis. She took time out from her career as an attorney to raise her three children, and through this experience discovered her natural talent with children. Abby enjoys running marathons (helpful for a Twos teacher) and doing yoga.

Miss Emily
Emily Sessions
graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a degree in Communication. A MECE graduate herself, she has truly enjoyed seeing three of her sons also graduate from MECE Preschool and is looking forward to her fourth and youngest son graduate this year. While two of her sons were attending school at MECE in 2012, Emily accepted a position teaching Spanish Enrichment. Realizing her passion for working with children, she then began working as an assistant teacher in the Two's classroom and also started taking college coursework towards her Lead Teacher Certification which she attained in 2017. MECE is extremely excited to announce Emily as a new lead teacher in the Two's 2-day class. Emily also continues her work as an assistant teacher in the 3-day class. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and four boys.

Whitney Delanoy started out her career as a photographer working mainly with children. In 2003 she discovered MECE and enrolled her son. Later, after enrolling her daughter, she joined the MECE staff where she brings her creative talents and energy to the classroom. Whitney attained her Lead Teacher Certification in 2009, and is currently working towards her Elementary degree. True to her background in photography, she has always “loved seeing the world through the eyes of a child.” Whitney’s hobbies include yoga, paddle boarding, roller blading and family fun!

Carmela Carlos discovered MECE several years ago when she observed the Kindergarten class as a part of an Early Childhood class at Palm Beach State College. She felt fortunate to work in the school's first year of summer camp, Camp MECE, which she loved so much. She felt honored to become an assistant during the school year. Miss Carmela is currently in school, working to get her Associate and Bachelor’s Degrees. Her endless care for her three younger sisters, outgoing nature and love of putting a smile on people's faces has given her a passion for teaching ever since she was 12. She is filled with gratitude to be a Teacher in the Senior Twos and thanks God for guiding her to MECE.

Miss Katie
Katie Port
, a long-time member of First United Methodist Church, took notice of MECE's loving and nurturing environment even before she had children. As someone who has worked with children her entire career (starting out as a student worker at summer camps) it seemed like destiny that her two boys would eventually graduate from and she would find herself with the MECE family. Katie has an Associate and Bachelor's degree in Sociology and Psychology from Florida Atlantic University in 2001. In 2015 she joined MECE as an assistant teacher in the Threes class, and then attained her Lead Teacher Certification in 2016. MECE is extremely excited to announce Katie as a new lead teacher in the 2-day Junior Threes class. She also continues her work as an assistant teacher in the 3-day Threes class. Katie has a passion for using fun and creative play as teaching tools, and especially enjoys watching the children learn and grow. Her favorite hobby is spending time outside and appreciating nature with her husband and two sons.

Laura also serves as one of MECE’s music leaders -- you'll frequently see her directing music at events such as MECE Sunday, the Christmas Pageant and others. Laura and her husband Jim have been active members of the First United Methodist Church in Boca Raton for many years and have two beautiful daughters, Kristina and Katie (both MECE graduates), and son-in-law, Chas. MECE Fours Teacher
Sandie Taylor
graduated from Tufts University with a degree in Sociology and took some time off from working to stay home with her children. Her youngest two are MECE graduates and, while they attended, she became a substitute in the classroom and discovered a love for teaching. When her youngest daughter graduated from MECE in 1989, Sandie accepted a permanent staff position and found another family.  She has worked with all age groups and has been a pre-K teacher since 1999.  Sandie received her Lead Teacher Certification in 1994, based on her degree and college course work in early childhood development. When not working on her lesson plans,  Sandie enjoys baking and cooking for her family – husband, 3 daughters, 3 sons-in-law, five grandsons and two granddaughters. She is delighted that two of her grandsons are MECE graduates and that her youngest two grandsons are currently MECE students. “My goal as a pre-K teacher is to provide a safe, happy and fun environment in which my students will feel good about themselves and flourish as they become increasingly competent at new skills and confident in their abilities.” Sandie lives in Boca Raton with her husband.
